The Five Steps

The steps in the research process include:

  1. defining your research needs,
  2. developing a research strategy,
  3. conducting searches for information,
  4. evaluating the resources you find, and
  5. incorporating and citing the information you use.

Each section of the tutorial takes you through a step in this process.

Research isn't always neat and clean. You may have to move back a step, make different decisions, and then move forward again. Therefore, it's a good idea to begin early and manage your time wisely.
